I made my prom dress from my late father's old uniform - but what I found hidden in the fabric shocked me.

"Short Stack?"

His surprise quickly turned to concern.

"Is Ellen alright?"

"She's doing well."

He frowned.

Dad would have laughed.

"Is Ellen alright?"

In Glen's living room, there was a recliner, a coffee cup, and a framed photograph.

Dad and Glen at 22, standing next to a dented patrol car, smiling as if life had not yet taught them fear.

A frozen meal, still wrapped, was waiting on the worktop.

I placed the letter on his table.

"We found it in Dad's uniform."

Glen recognized the handwriting.

His knees seemed to buckle before he sat down.

"We found it in Dad's uniform."

He read the first page slowly.

When he got to the warning, a broken laugh escaped him.

"Chris never believed me."

" Me neither. "

He looked up. I was expecting him to smile.

But he didn't do it.

He turned the page. His gaze became fixed.

The silence continued until I heard the fridge switch off.
