I found a photo tucked away at the bottom of my late mother's old album. I was two years old and standing next to a girl who looked exactly like me. On the back, in my mother's handwriting, was written: "Anna and Lily, 1978." I had never heard of this Lily. Not once in my entire life.
I found the photo by chance. It slipped off the back of an old album and landed on the floor.
But as soon as I turned it over, I was breathless.
