The trick that almost no one notices at first glance
The whole key to this enigma lies in the volume of the submerged objects. The larger an object is, the more space it takes up in the glass... and therefore the more it reduces the space available for water. It is nothing more and nothing less than the famous Archimedes' principle, seen in physics class in middle school before being quickly relegated to oblivion!
The trombone, on the other hand, is a very small object. It displaces a tiny amount of liquid. The logical consequence is that glass A is objectively the one that contains the most water, even if all the levels seem perfectly similar at first glance.
Our brains love mental shortcuts. It automatically assimilates "same visual level = same quantity" and does not go any further. This challenge illustrates with great humor how our perceptions can mislead us.
What your choice (maybe) reveals about your way of being
Of course, this is not an official psychological test — and that's exactly what makes these little viral challenges so endearing. They push us to question our way of reasoning, and it's a frankly refreshing exercise!
Have you opted for glass A? Congratulations, you have a sharp eye! You take the time to analyze before acting. You are often recognized as a calm and meticulous person.
Did the B glass seduce you? You listen to your instincts and you decide quickly. Intuition naturally guides your daily life.
Have you leaned towards glass C? You are looking to reconcile creativity and logic. Weighing the pros and cons before choosing is your trademark.
What if it's the D glass? You understand the world in a global, almost intuitive way. You often perceive things that others miss.
