Temperature management
Despite their name, Christmas cacti enjoy warm temperatures.
Keep their surroundings between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit when they're not budding, and make sure they're not exposed to cold drafts or windowsills during the winter.
Use places that are free from drafts and watch out for artificial drafts from appliances such as air conditioners and dehumidifiers.
Feeding Your Plant
After flowering, fertilize your Christmas cactus with a balanced 10-10-10 or 20-20-20 fertilizer once a month in half doses until September.
Take a break during flowering and resume it once it is over. You can also use kitchen scraps to feed your cactus.
Size for shape and growth
Pruning after flowering the cactus results in a compact shape and promotes new growth.
Carefully trim the leaves and use the cuttings to grow new plants in well-draining, well-lit soil.
