On Sunday, July 19, Julien, a farmer in Bourgneuf, planned to continue his usual work on an eight-hectare plot. The grass growing there was soon to be harvested to provide part of the feed reserves needed for his animals during the winter.
His program was abruptly interrupted by the arrival of approximately 200 caravans belonging to an evangelical community of Travellers. The vehicles gradually occupied the private property without the operator having granted any permission for this encampment.
Faced with the size of the gathering and the speed with which his field was occupied, Julien explains that he immediately felt a deep anger.
The farmer temporarily blocked some of the vehicles.
In the initial moments, the situation becomes particularly tense. The farmer understands that the police cannot immediately remove the caravans on his land, which reinforces his feeling of powerlessness.
