This popular tip owes its fame to Australian Caroline McCauley, creator of a viral video. Simply place a ball of aluminum foil in the dishwasher to solve the problem of dirty or dull cutlery after washing.
If you'd like to try it, simply take some aluminum foil you have at home, crumple it up, and place it in the cutlery basket. Once the ball of aluminum foil is inside, run a normal wash cycle in the dishwasher. You'll notice that your forks and knives are shinier than before.
It sounds almost magical, but it's a simple chemical reaction, more specifically an electrochemical reaction between aluminium and sodium bicarbonate, which is found in dishwasher tablets.
