The sadness was gone.

Victoria nodded.
“Eventually.”
His smile faded slightly.
“Eventually?”
“I said I would look at the papers,” she replied calmly. “I didn’t say I would sign them today.”
Liam’s jaw tightened.
“Victoria, don’t make this difficult.”
She almost laughed.
Difficult.
That was the word he chose.
Not cruel.
Not unfair.
Difficult.
After everything she had done for him.
“I have a meeting,” she said.
Liam frowned.
“A meeting?”
“Yes.”
Jessica looked her up and down.
“With who? Your classmates?”
Victoria looked at Jessica for a long moment.
Then she smiled.
“No.”
She turned away.
“With the people who are buying my company.”
The two of them froze.
For the first time all afternoon, Liam’s confident expression cracked.
“What did you just say?”
Victoria didn’t answer.
She walked away, holding her diploma in one hand and the divorce papers in the other.
Behind her, Liam called out.
“Victoria!”
She kept walking.
