Cleaning the detergent drawer is a simple maintenance task that only takes a few minutes. Once removed, rinse the drawer thoroughly under warm running water to loosen any remaining detergent or fabric softener. Use a soft brush, sponge, or an old toothbrush to gently clean the corners, small openings, and narrow compartments where residue often collects. If deposits are difficult to remove, soaking the drawer in warm water for several minutes can make cleaning easier.
It’s also a good idea to clean the compartment inside the washing machine where the drawer slides into place. Detergent and moisture can build up in this area as well, even if it isn’t immediately visible. Wipe the interior with a soft cloth or sponge, paying attention to the openings where water enters the drawer during the wash cycle. Removing residue from both the drawer and its housing helps maintain proper detergent flow and reduces the chance of unwanted odors developing over time.
