Ticks in the house or on the skin: what to really do in case of an infestation?

Essential reflexes to have immediately

Neither panic nor wait. Here's how to manage the situation effectively:

Remove it properly. Put on gloves and use a tick remover, which you can easily find at a pharmacy. Grasp it by the head and gently pull it out, never squeezing its body. This detail is crucial: squeezing a tick can release harmful substances.

Don't throw it away. Place it in a small, airtight container and keep it safe. If unusual symptoms appear in the following days, this information will be valuable to your doctor.

Clean the surrounding area. Thoroughly disinfect the spot where you found the parasite, then vacuum the surrounding areas and hard-to-reach corners.

Is the tick already attached to the skin?

In this situation, every minute counts. Remove it immediately with a tick remover, but absolutely avoid applying oil or alcohol beforehand—contrary to popular belief, these methods are ineffective and can even worsen the situation. Once the tick is removed, carefully monitor the area for several weeks. The appearance of a circular rash, fever, or joint pain should prompt you to seek medical help without delay.
