Every September, since the beginning of the 20th century, gardeners of the extreme gather in Harrogate, UK, to showcase the vegetables they've grown all summer long with so much love (and secret recipes)... that they're enormous! The Giant Vegetable Competition is a must-see event for many Britons who, as we know, are passionate about gardening. You can see the biggest or longest vegetables in the UK, and even the world! Since the competition began, several world records have been set, such as the largest onion (see below): 8.47 kg!
All over the world, other amateur and professional gardeners have taken up the challenge. Not only for the largest vegetable but also for the largest fruit. Here are 10 of them, seen in 2016, officially recognized records, each as impressive as the next.
The World's Heaviest Cauliflower:
Its name is associated with five world records for large, very large vegetables. From Peter Glazebrook's farm in Hallam, Nottinghamshire, came the world's longest beets, as well as the largest and heaviest potatoes, onions, and cauliflowers… The latter is a specimen of the Darwin variety, holding the record for the most massive cauliflower ever recorded, officially recognized by the Guinness World Records: 27.48 kg! That's 20 times its normal weight. Cauliflower gratin lovers could eat it every day for weeks!

The world's longest carrot
Nottinghamshire is clearly fertile ground for growing the world's largest vegetables. It's from this county that Joe Atherton's monumental 6.245-meter-long vegetable originates! When it was presented at the National Giant Vegetables Championship in Malvern, UK, on September 23, 2016, it shattered the previous world record of 5.841 meters, held since 2007.
