MY DAUGHTER’S MOTHER-IN-LAW HANDED HER A MAID’S UNIFORM AT HER OWN WEDDING…

PART 2 — THE WEDDING TURNED INTO A BOARD MEETING WHEN THE GROOM REALIZED WHO HE HAD TRIED TO STEAL FROM

The first message appeared on the screen behind the wedding stage.

For three seconds, nobody understood what they were seeing.

The ballroom had been filled with music, champagne, and polite conversations. Guests had spent the last hour taking photographs beneath white roses and crystal chandeliers, believing they were witnessing the beginning of a perfect marriage.

Then the screen changed.

A private conversation appeared.

ETHAN: Once she signs everything, the trust becomes easier to control.

A silence fell over the room.

Not the kind of silence that happens when people are surprised.

The kind that happens when people realize they have just witnessed something they were never supposed to see.

Hannah stared at the screen.

Then she looked at Ethan.

His arm slowly dropped from her shoulder.

“Mom…” she whispered.

I watched my daughter’s face change.

That was the moment I hated most.

Not Lorraine’s cruelty.

Not Ethan’s greed.

Not even the humiliation they had tried to force on her.

It was seeing Hannah realize that the man she had defended for eighteen months had been studying her like an investment opportunity.

Ethan stepped forward.

“This is fake.”

His voice came quickly.

Too quickly.

A man who is innocent usually asks what happened.

A man who is guilty asks who exposed him.

“That’s ridiculous,” he continued. “Someone edited these messages.”

I stood calmly beside the table.

“Interesting.”

Everyone looked at me.

“Because that was exactly what your lawyer said when I showed him the first copy.”

Ethan froze.

His father, Richard Vale, turned sharply.

“My lawyer?”

“Yes.”

I picked up my champagne glass but did not drink from it.

“Your family has been preparing this marriage contract for months.”

A murmur moved through the crowd.

Lorraine stepped forward.

“This is disgusting. You are destroying your daughter’s wedding.”

“No,” I replied.

I looked at Hannah.
